    1. Have you included a reference list that is correctly formatted and includes all material you have referred to?

2. Have you :-avoided using slip covers

3. used a stapler

4. used at least 12 point font that is easy to read

5. used spell and grammar check,

6. used correct formatting (ie no unexplained spaces; or

                random changes of font, or centred formatting

7. used proper paragraphing,

8. used correct sentences

9. put your tutorial group and name on the very front. (Most of you will be answering "no" to some of Items 2 to 9. If you cannot do these things, how are you going to teach your students to do them?)

10. Have you based your opinions on research in every piece?

11. Have you read your work aloud to make sure it makes sense, waited a while and read it again just to check, and then gotten some capable person (other than yourself) to proof read it?

12. Have you used research other than the readings? (Extra resources are provided on my website and the course website and you could consider doing research of your own. Otherwise, you may not have a full understanding of the issues.)

13. When you respond to another person’s work, do you refer to their ideas at least once, and do you actually address or expand their ideas?

14. Have you answered the topic ie, explained WHY the factor affects achievement and retention in Australia;

15. …as well as how the Australian school system (not Singapore or the U.S.A) is adapting?

16. Do you avoid repeating your ideas in different threads or responses or in the same piece? (This is OK for introductory or concluding remarks, but take care repeating ideas elsewhere. Repetition may indicate a lack of ideas or organization problems; and it reduces the ideas you can be marked on.)

17. Did you do a plan for each piece of work?

18. Have you written within 10% over or 10% under the word limit? (If you are way over or under you may be penalised. References are not included in word counts).

19. Have you analysed the research? Asked what it means? Explained what is the significance? Asked "why" about your statements? (Have you avoided simply repeating the research in different words?)

20. Are quotes less than 10 % (this is a general guide)?

21. Are quotes chosen because they are essential to clarifying or exemplifying an idea?

22. Have you given the source of any fact or conclusion that is based on research or from your reading?

23. Is the citation done correctly?

24. Is your work interesting? (A second opinion is often helpful)

25. Have you addressed the criteria and followed the instructions?

26. Have you constructed your won view of the topic based on wide reading and considering different sides of the issues?
