WEBELOS PROGRAM
The Webelos Program is a 20-month program, which differs from the earlier Wolf and Bear one-year program. Webelos is designed to prepare the boys to become Boy Scouts and is therefore less family-based and more den-based than the programs for the younger kids.
Advancement/Badges (or Activity Pins)
There are various levels of achievement within the overall Webelos program:
First, is the Webelos rank, which is similar to the Bobcat, Wolf and Bear patch and completes the diamond pattern on the shirt pocket. To earn the Webelos patch, the boys must complete several requirements, including being active in the Den for 3 months, earning the Fitness badge and two other badges from other activity badge groups (see below for details of the 5 groups and 20 badges). Note: Webelos Activity Badges are actually metal Pins that the boys may wear on either their hats or on a Webelos ribbon (or colors) that is attached to their right shirt sleeve at the shoulder.
Second, individual activity badges each covering a topic or skill category. The boys can earn as many of these as they want; however, certain combinations are required to earn an Advancement. These are divided into 5 groups, as follows:
