ONLY COLD WHEN YOU'RE CRYING

He was crying over dinner and a bottle of champagne

Two places at the table and one still remained

So I slowly wandered toward him and asked if I could help

He looked out of the window into the stormy August night

Candles on the table had burnt the whole way through

I asked one more time if there was something I could do

The words he spoke flowed gently from his lips

"I just can't stand the loneliness, it's been this way for years"

As his hand laid over mine,"Would you please take me?"

He started to cry again,"I can't make it on my own."

As we walked down the street to where he parked his car

A chill fellupon me stepping in with the storm

I said,"It's only cold when you're crying, so please dry up your eyes, your eyes give me the best smile and leave the raining to the skies."

He pulled me closer and kissed me on the cheek, wrapped his arms around me and said, "Thank you, you're sweett."

We spent the night together, held each other tightly and talked the whole night through

Five months and three days later we both said, "I do."

Beneath a star-filled sky and a halo moon

Sixty years have passed since our wedding day

The love we shared grew stronger with the turning of the gray

As he sat across from me that cold December morn

Tears fell from his eyes again as he shivered from the storm

He said, "I'm sick, I may be dying, my bones are weak and worn, I cannot leave without you, your love is what keeps me warm."

I said, "It's only cold when you're crying, so please dry up your eyes, give me your best smile and leave the raining to the skies."

Eight months later I was praying by his bed and as I started to cry, these are the last words that he said,

"It's only cold when you're crying, so please dry up your eyes, give me your best smile and leave the raining to the skies...I love you, I love you, I love you..."
