

S.S. Orizaba
Built by William Cramp & Sons Shipbuilders, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for New York & Cuba Mail Steamship Co., in 1918 and named Orizaba. Transferred to United States Navy, American flag, in 1941 and renamed USS Orizaba. Transport service. Sold to Brazilian Navy, in 1945 and renamed Duque De Caxis. Caught fire off the Brazilian coast, 7/31/46. Repaired and resumed. Laid up in 1960 and later scrapped in Brazil in 1963.
7,582 gross tons; 444 (bp) feet long; 60 feet wide. Steam turbine engines, twin screw. Service speed 17 knots. 430 passengers (306 first class, 60 second class, 64 third class).
