Why do I construct the way I do
Simple, I try to get it as right as possible given my means, knowledge and skill to do so.
I consult period texts and pattern books. I research textiles, dyes and extant clothing to the best of my ability. I read historical accounts of life and influences of the regions and times I choose to recreate. Trims, embroidery and lace books inhabit my book shelves. I view as many manuscripts of dress studies of the time as I can. I look at lots and lots of beautiful artworks and find out about the artists who painted them, and their patrons. I make my own patterns as close to those of the time. I have spent many years researching and developing the dress styles I have attempted to recreated. I am always learning and progressing in skill and knowledge. The more I learn the more I realize how little I know.
More than any thing else I do the things I do, in the way I do them because I love what I do. I have fun.
I hope that you, enjoy it also.
