                     What Face of Evil?
.
Dear Cyber-Saints, now it is a most curious thing that the
World should be so concerned with the face of evil that is
easy to see, while at the same time so unconcerned with the
more mundane everyday types of evils that we see all the time.
For example, the shocking terrorist attack of 9/11/01 is still
generating many strong emotions, violent words (and actions),
various sorts of parades, and so forth. Meanwhile, thousands
continue to die on the nations highways in auto-accidents that
are almost always senseless and tragic. People continue to
be robbed, attacked, cheated, raped, and sometimes even
murdered; and all for many different reasons and causes (eg.
sometimes even something as trivial as bad-timing is all it takes
to get yourself killed).
.
But all these familiar everyday-type evils are almost
friendly compared to the "horrific loss of life" of 9/11?
Right. And did you notice that the World's first response to
the terrorist attack (aside from the shock and outrage, of
course) was to put a name and a face to the attack (so as
to assign total responsibility to just one man)? Right.
.
To tell you the truth, I was much more impressed by the
haste with which this was accomplished (and then made public
knowledge) than I was with the attack itself. Think about it.
If we put aside for a moment the fearful and melodramatic
aspects of 9/11, we can easily see that the twin-towers are
a rather obvious target, *IF* your weapon of choice just
happens to be a really big jet-airplane!
.
 As a military action it was a bold and brilliant maneuver;
paying tribute (as it were) to the fearless samurai pilots of
World War II. But one strategic victory does not a war make,
and so the-plane-into-the-building-thing must ultimately stand
as a strong symbolic protest that achieved ... nothing at all!
Yet even so, it remains of the utmost importance that we put
a face on the evil of 9/11. Oh yes, I'm quite sure that if we
only kill that "evil man", then all will be well again . . .
.
But this is all nonsense, of course. The world-economy is not
impressed by 9/11; and neither am I. This is because I know
damn well that evil does NOT wear a face that can be so easily
seen by any human eye. In fact, true evil does not wear a face
at all. Instead it wears a logo; for the worst of human evils
simply get funneled into these collective (and abstract)
entities that can act with absolute criminal malice toward
this planet and its future, and for the most part without
much restraint, to the end of serving selfish dreams and evil
ambitions. Therefore I say that evil does not wear a face;
it wears a corporation!

P.S. "For this selfishness of the human heart, which wishes
to exercise its understanding only on that which concerns our
bodily needs, succeeds in blunting rather than in sharpening
it. It is absolutely necessary for it to be exercised on
spiritual objects, if it is to attain its perfect illumination,
and bring out that purity of heart which makes us capable of
loving virtue for its own sake alone." -- from "The Education
of the Human Race" by Gotthold E. Lessing

Thx, firechyld ... btw: I like your avatar. Harley is just
SO darn cute! You do know about her and Poison Ivy don't
you? ... What am I saying? *of course* you do! :)

Me too. Who isn't attached to a corporation in one way or
another? Even government is just a bigger form of corporation.

Eat a bag of pretzels, maybe?
