Places of Interest:
1 f'Vallon Forest - An old growth wetland area of huge dark skinned ancient trees and numerous waterfalls known for it's idyllic beauty. The Forest is off limits to all forms of mechanical travel. Low powered boats and hiking paths harmonize with their surroundings and a small Ithorian-led nature cult has established a presence within, living in tree top villages and occasionally welcoming guests for the night.
2 Madwea - The small planet nearby that has often been Orlissan's little sister. Desiring to retain control of their young force users, Orlissan children are sent here quietly under new names for basic training and listed as deceased until old enough to no longer interest the Jedi Order.

Planetary History:
The planet was first known as Oris' Lands after the Oris Family, headed by Ramon Oris, a wealthy financier who in his later years became an ardent back to nature environmentalist and financed an emigration of like minded settlers in search of a world to start over fresh upon.
Oris became the planet's first Governor and his family continued to hold prominent government roles for several centuries even after being re-absorbed by the Old Republic.
Some of the pastoral enthusiasm waned after the first generations had passed away and their children began to reintegrate technology into their lives, although still attempt to integrate it with the environment wherever possible. With technology came outsiders, many of whom had come out this far to escape the long arm of Jedi law. Some were ready to retire to a pleasant life on a beautiful world and Orlissan gained a reputation for not asking questions beyond "How can we help you enjoy your stay?"
Joining the Old Republic didn't really change things. The retired businessmen continued as before, hiding their old comrades under genteel pretenses, and so the old businesses still exist, they just cover their tracks and pay their taxes. Oddly enough, no Jedi have ever come from Orlissan, ever, in its Republic history. They simply go to Madwea until the Jedi leave.
Unfortunately, newer younger less discreet organizations occasionally try to establish a presence and things get noisy. The latest upheaval has lasted several years and led to a higher than average murder rate. The war cooled briefly three years ago, Security Forces suspect due to the demise of one of the faction heads as he has not been seen since, but now that it is back up, assume his underlings have assumed control and continued the struggle.
TRAVEL
LAW The shadow economy is strong on Orlissan, and thoroughly regulated. Disputes are handled by a council of peers, with a small fee for the council members' time. The Council exists to maintain harmony. Noone wishes to suck the citizens dry or see things escalate and the Council smoothes things.
Everything is legal, and has a price and is licensed, by either the government or by the Council. Including murder, if you have the proper permit for it and have paid the fees. But for the most part people tend to abide by the laws and only dabble in the shadows for entertainment.
Jordan Sauth is a criminal boss on a Rim World in the Karada Sector governed by the Empire. There are reports of possible corruption from the Governor on down. The Gov's aide went missing a few years ago, among others. Sauth is believed to be involved in typical illegal activities including spice smuggling, extortion, blackmail, and indirectly involved in several gangland skirmishes with another criminal organization over territory. Whistleblowers from both gangs have a high suicide rate in jail, before they could relate much information and police may have assisted although no charges have been brought.
A gang war lasting several years has led to a higher than average crime rate. The war cooled briefly three years ago, Security Forces suspect due to the demise of one of the two faction heads as he has not been seen since, but his underlings have assumed control and continued the struggle.
Security forces has had a difficult time infiltrating or even investigating the warring factions due to budgetary constraints leading to a lack of manpower, and a high rate of death for those attempting to infiltrate either organization, thus leading to charges of corruption in the Department or higher up in the government.
The Security Forces have been unable to get much out of prisoners and detainees from either group and several have died in custody of suicide or 'unknown causes' the coroner generally put down to heart attack or stroke although no medical history of such existed. Whistleblowers especially have a high rate of such deaths, always long before they can testify. Most arrestees are local people, although some originate offworld, imported from the criminal classes of other worlds and probably smuggled in or passed through Customs with false IDs as there is no record of their arrival. It is generally known although unproven that Jordan Sauth leads one of the groups, (Vair led the other until he went missing).
