Jarrod, Robert and Nick had made it their business to find ways of harassing the girls in their class. From sneaky verbal taunts to x-rated magazines left lying around they were becoming a menace.

The principle was lost for ideas after nothing seemed to work. That's when his deputy Miss Lyle made him aware of the newest program for treating such problems. The education department had been in partnership with a large research company on something called the Doppelganger formula.

The boys were hauled before the principle with their parents and they were given an ultimatum. Accept the new program or be taken to juvenile court where formal charges could be laid. No surprise the exasperated parents agreed to let their sons take the program. The next year three very different students showed up for school.

Jane, Roberta and Nikky were now new juniors at the school and spent the year learning some very tough things about life as girls. About a week before school went back each family got a visit from an education department officer who gave them the explanation brochure, permission documents and oversaw the taking of the formula.

Jane, Roberta and Nikky had an interesting junior year.

Each boy became a girl that day and they were also given a parcel of female items like a make-up starter kit, feminine hygiene products and coupons for jewellery and other accessories. The handout explained that were to stay this way for a year and that they must also show some improvement in both grades and behaviour. If they didn't they would be given another mixture that would re-age them back two years and they would start high school again. Still as a girl!

That first day three very scared young girls started their junior year. None of the students knew of the switch as their parents had opted for the secrecy clause. All three had had their entire wardrobes replaced and they were not permitted to wear male gender specific clothing.

Jane had been on the swimming team previously and soon found herself in that familiar role except she was on the girls team. Having to walk out in front of the school for her first meet wearing a lycra bathing suit was embarrassing. Knowing most of the boys in her school were ogling her this way sure made her feel conspicuous.

Roberta had another problem altogether. She had previously shared a bedroom with her twelve year old brother. Her family didn't have any choice but to move her in with her older sister who was a senior. The friction that that created at home was awful, as Roberta was informed in no uncertain manner that she was an intruder on her sister's personal space. That would have been bearable if Roberta hadn't developed a crush on her sister's boyfriend, three months later.

Nikky didn't have too many problems except for being very very popular with the boys. After six months she had dated no less than three different guys and was currently involved with Chad Watson the school quarter-back.

All three went through many female rites of passage that year. Periods, boys, fashion errors, boys, being accepted into certain cliques, boys, emotional ups and downs and lost loves. By the time the year ending dance arrived they all had dates and pretty dresses to wear. Roberta lost her virginity to her sister's boyfriend in his car the night of the dance. Luckily she had Nikky to talk to for advice. After all she was working on her fourth lover at the time. Jane had done very well with her grades and was a changed person. She had avoided getting too involved in female things and used her sport and school work to keep her occupied. Still when Stephen Alderdice kissed her at the dance she couldn't help but be caught up in the moment. If it wasn't that time of the month she may have succumbed to her feelings.

The year finished and all three boys were very much different for the experience. The department officers visited their homes to reverse the process. It's a shame Jane's parents didn't read the handout very carefully. Otherwise they would have saved a DNA sample from when Jane was Jarrod.
