Hi I'm Barney! I've been at the sanctuary for 5 yrs now and its a great place.Unfortunately for the rest of you, we have limited space and funds: so there's a waiting list to get in. I should note also that all cats are at a separate foster home and not at the shelter as we still have no setup for cats.We require a fenced yard for most of the rambunctious rapscalians(i.e. younger dogs)cuz they aren't car smart.Unlike alot of places tho,all of us will get to live our lives out whether we are adopted or not. I want to encourage all of you looking for a pet to save a life by going to your local humane society first.
We're an hour and a half from Knoxville or Chattanooga. I'm doing the web page and the newsletter,so let me tell you a little about DAWG....
DAWG got its beginnings in 1982 when Jeannie Couch saw a need for animals who had been abandoned in the National Forest to have a place to go.So she began on her own to rescue and care for them. In 1997, she and a few other animal lovers got together and got the shelter its non-profit status. Jeannie is the president of the orginization. DAWG is dedicated to saving animals and making their lives better by providing food, shelter, water veterinarian care and most of all....lots of Love. Each animal at DAWG is considered a pet. Someone is there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to make sure the animals needs are always being met.
This past year, our humans got together and built the second section of Meagan's House and now they are working on the third. Megan's House is an indoor shelter for those of my buddies who aren't in as good health or can't take the weather. We need more funds for building materials to complete the last section. More people helped by sending in Homeless Homers, sending money, or bringing food by! Wow! What a great group of people!

We encourage all of you to spay and neuter your pets. It keeps down on unwanted pets, and can protect your babies from cancers of the mamaries and genitals
