I was born in Heart's Content in 1956. My Dad is Thomas Rodgers and his dad was George Rodgers. My mom (Velma) is a Seaward from Old Perlican (Annie and Edward - living in Torbay). My Dad retired a couple of years ago and moved back to Heart's Content built a new home on the old "homestead" and have settled quite nicely. We moved to Goose Bay in 1960 and my siblings and I were raised there. I'll be spending a couple of weeks this summer in Heart's Content as I have done for the past few years. It's the place to go for relaxation and rest. Looking for to chattting with you and conversing with my dad about the names listed under "Rodgers" in your site. Blanche

Hi Debbie, Back again for a few days. From the book,"Random Island Pioneers", I recently learned that my gggrandfather, Thomas Smith,Sr (1804-1884) married a Martha Tilley in 1828. I also found that my ggrandfather, Alfred Strong, (1840s) who was supposed to hail fr m Old Perlican, drifted to what is now Clarenville - Russell's Cove - and then moved elsewhere. I tried to access your file: "Old Perlican and surrounding areas" on several days to no avail. What am I doing wrong? Glad to see you are still going strong. egards

Hi Debbie This is my last day of access to the NET for at least 6 months. I actually found reference to my great Uncle Aaron Smith' SMITH brickworks, Snooks Harbour, in the Encyclopedia of Newfoundland and Labrador. Just found your site and think it's great. My parents are both from around Old Perlican - namely Grates Cove and Bay-de-Verde. In fact, I visited there last summer with my mother and brother. Debbie, It's me again. I was so excited when I read that, thanks to you, Old Perlican was included in the new additions to the 1894-97 directory of Newfoundland. Alas, when I checked the directory, the towns of Ochre Pit Cove and Old Perlican were missing. I'll k ep a daily watch. Since the archival searches I've had done so far have elicited little information, I'm particularly grateful for what you are sharing. If you run across any Alfred Strongs born in the 1830s to 1850s, I'll be ecstatic.

Debbie, you made my day with the pre-1800 Methodist birth and death listings from Old Perlican, so difficult to obtain long distance. My grandmother, Charity E.
