Biography
Collin McCollin 1865-1915
In the 1881 Census Collin, then 17, was described as a wheelwright's office boy. Collin married Jane Eleanor (born Hull) in 1888 and according to the 1889 Kelly's Hull Directory Collin was a wheelwright of Harry's Place, Adelaide St. Two years later, in the 1891 Census, Colin and Jane Eleanor were living with Jane Eleanor's father's family at 23 Nile (?) St, Hull. Jane Eleanor's father was Isaac Tyson (aged 51), a dock wharfe foreman - a widower born in Barrow-in-Furness in Lancashire. Also in the house were: Lavinia Tyson (aged 20), Isabella Smithson (aged 63 - housekeeper), and Colin and Jane Eleanor's children, Lavinia (aged 3) and Arnold (aged 2 months). Cook's Hull Directory of 1895 records an inspector by the name C. McCollin of 38 Portland St. By the 1901 Census Collin was working for Hull Corporated as an inspector of hackney carriages. He is recorded at 45 Gordon Street with his wife, four young children, and a visitor, James Nicholson (aged 50, engineer). According to Kelly's Collin was still living at the same address in 1912. He died in 1915 and from then on Kelly's directories record his wife, Jane, at 172 St George's Rd until 1930 when her son, Wilfred Cyril, an electrical engineer, was at the same address. In the same directory Matthew McCollin, gas worker, (her brother-in-law ?) was recorded as living next door at 174. Jane died in 1954 aged 86.
