Biography

George Henry ('Harry') McCollin 1880-1949

According to David Bilton's book 'Hull PALS', George Henry was in the 31st Army division 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment (2nd Hull PALS Batttalion 92nd Brigade: nickname 'The Tradesmen'). He most likely volunteered in September/October 1914 in Hull - and was billeted at The Circle on Anlaby Road. The 2nd Hull PALS saw action on the front line on the First Day of the Somme and they fought at Serre, near Colincaips. Before going to France, his battalion also served in Egypt guarding the Suez Canal. (Thanks to Martin Smith for providing this info.)

Geo Hy appeared in Kelly's Directory as a journeyman joiner of 108 Coltman Street, Hull. in 1939
