Biography
Henry McCollin 1819-1906
Henry McCollin was a blacksmith living in New George Street, Hull, in 1849 when he was witness to a fire that lead to the death of baby Eliza Smith (Inquest). In the 1851 Census Henry was described as an enginesmith of 5 Richardson's Buildings with a home at Church Street, Hull. After getting married to Isabella Lonsdale, also of Hull, they moved down to London. Henry's will itemises the fittings of his home at 16 Sedgewick Road, Leyton in 1897 and includes a brass bedstead, pictures of 'entombing Christ and Mr Gladstone', portraits of his 'dear departed wife', himself, and of his brother William, a piano, a volume of 'Milton's Paradice Lost', and pictures of 'Nelson bound for Trafalger Bay' and 'Nelsons first farewell'.
