There is a sign that hangs over the road,

"Crosswalk, stop for pedestrians" is its ode.

With yellow background and bright red font,

Difficult to miss? Most certainly not!

Yet drivers speed right past,

Caring nothing for the students en route to class.

Police claim distance, so we just have to deal.

However, I don't like the idea of my body becoming

A hawk's midday meal.

There must be something that can be done

To remedy the collective plight.

Maybe, just maybe, the driver's could slow down and stop

when a student is in their sight

and let them pass…

or would that be too much to ask?
