the story of flight: as told by the indian stamps

yv jeppu

Man has always looked at the birds and envied and admired their freedom to fly. He has tried to imitate them and tried to fly. The story of flight starts from there. It is the story of Man’s conquest of the skies

The Beginning

Aircraft and Pigeon 1 Oct 1954 A modest beginning was made when man used pigeons to carry written messages across the sky over long distances. In our times the carrying of messages still continues, not by pigeons but by the huge metal monsters that dominate the sky today. This saga is brought out in the stamp issued on October 1, 1954 on the occasion of the Stamp Centenary.
