Explanation Of Events If you've ever been to a horse show and didn't understand what was going on, this is the page for you! Here are some explanations of most events! Courtesy of ApHC! Halter Classes:During the halter classes, horses are shown in-hand to the judge at both the walk and trot. They're also "set up"(meaning they stop with all 4 feet perfectly aligned) so the judge may view the horse's structure at a standstill. Hunter In Hand: While the entry in halter class is trotted to show that it travels smoothly and soundly, the hunter in hand entry is put through its paces to show the beauty of its movements. In hunter in hand classes, movement is always 60 percent of the score while the remaining 40percent scores the horse's overall conformation and temperament. Equitation: A horse's ability is important, but without a skilled rider, the horse wouldn't be able to perform at its level of expertise. Equitation classes, also known as horsemanship, are judged not on the horse's way of going, but the exhibitor's poise, balance and position while riding. During and equitation class, riders work their horses on the rail at a walk, trot and canter much like a pleasure class, and they're often asked to work individual horsemanship patterns so the judge can further evaluate the rider's ablility to control his or her horse.
