Introduction

Here is the design for what I'll call the Vx2S. Vx2S simply stands for "Vifa times two Surround". This speaker is designed to be used as surround speakers, and mate with the Vx2T and Vx2C. I haven't built these yet, but plan to do so in the fall of 2001.



The Design

I want the surround speakers to be as "out of the way" as possible. Wanting to hear rather than see them, I'm going to build a similar but smaller cabinet like the Direct Accoustics Silent II Speaker.

This style of cabinet will allow great flexibility in placement options. I'll try them along the back wall on either side of the couch facing forward. Along the side walls facing into the room. And finally, backing on to each side of the couch, facing the side walls. In all cases the speakers will be on the floor. I'll report what works best when I'm done.

The cabinets will be ported and the internal volume will be approximately 15 Liters. I plan to place the port on the side of the cabinet so I can place the cabinets right up against the wall.

The drivers and crossover will be the same as used in the Vx2T. I'll update this page with some pics as soon as I'm done.
