Personality Check

Interpreting your Personality Traits

 

 

Integrated skills:                 READING, SPEAKING, writing.

Level:                                    Beginner English for adult learners between the ages

                                                18-55 years old.  They are attending basic literacy

                                                at St. Pius X Adult Education Vocational Center.

                                               

Objectives:                           Students will be identifying and extracting adjectives and verbs from the personality tests involved in the lesson.

 

Students will define their personality traits and become equipped with all the vocabulary necessary to describe people and their personality traits.  

                                               

                                    Students will be able to interpret their personality traits through different colors and images.

                                   

                                    Students will be able to look up any new vocabulary words.

                                               

                                                Students will be able to create their own classified ad.

Preactivity

Day 1

Schema Building:

  1. Introduce the notion of personality traits by asking students what kind of person do they think they are?  What do students already know?
  2. Ask students to think of some adjectives that describe themselves and list then on the chalkboard.
  3. Distribute a list of adjectives to the students and review it together.
  4. You can show the students some examples of personality traits through classified ads in the newspaper.
  5. Be sure to use ads that describe personality and character traits.
  6. Students can work in groups to make a list of their own personality traits and exchange information with their friends.
  7. You can ask the students to share their information with the class.

 

Activity

Day 2

Grouping: Individual

Setup: Students will assess their personality traits and extract adjectives that describe their personality traits using the “Personality Check”.

 

  1. Distribute the worksheets, and have the

      students go to the “Personality Check”    

      site. Once there, they will click on the

      personality quizzes.

  1. Have the students extract the main   

ideas, words and phrases from the personality test.  Have the students

           complete Part 1 of the worksheet.

  1. Group the students by personality trait

and have them share their findings.

            They can then present their personality 

             to the class.

Post activity

Day 3

 

1.      Allow the students to get into groups

once again.

            Ask them to complete the Part II of

             the worksheet (The Classified Ad).

2.      Have the groups report to the rest of the

Tips:

 

 

 

  1. As part of the preactivity, provide a list of adjectives for the students to refer to in order to aid their comprehension of the activity involved.

 

  1. Some students may not understand all vocabulary terms, be sure to allow students to refer to their dictionaries while doing the activity.

 

3.   Guide students in writing their own personalized ad.
