The Invisible Band Released: 2001 Rating: 8/10 Track listing: 1. Sing/ 2. Dear Diary/ 3. Side/ 4. Pipe Dreams/ 5. Flowers In The Window/ 6. The Cage/ 7. Safe/ 8. Follow The Light/ 9. Last Train/ 10. Afterglow/ 11. Indefinitely/ 12. The Humpty Dumpty Love Song With their obvious McCartney-influenced attitude, Travis delivers very easily accessible pop. Every song is filled with catchy hooks and after just a couple of listens, you’ll find yourself humming the melodies that seems as if they were written back in the golden pop age, the sixties. Almost like they’ve been locked up in a vault for forty years and just been given a modern production. It is indeed a great set of songs here which is similar to the fantastic pop music created by the Hollies, the Beatles, the Zombies and the Byrds. You probably know at least one of the songs here, since both “Side” and “Sing” were huge selling singles. At least in Europe. Deservedly so too, which is pretty rare. There are so much more to be found here. Gorgeous ballads and clever arrangements ends up as a great pop album, and maybe the best record in 2001. The lyrics might sound a bit naive and maybe on the boarder to silly. However, that only adds to the overall impression of a band with big integrity. An integrity that has ‘British pop’ written all over it. Maybe not as freaked out as Radiohead. Maybe not as noisy as Oasis. Maybe not as thoughtful and gentle as Coldplay. Still this is pop at it’s very best. Try it out and see for yourself.
