Dwarf Tactics

I forgot at first to add dwarfs to my tactics list, and after a few complaints, here it is. Enjoy!

I recomend that when starting out with a Dwarf band you recruit about five men and spend the rest on equipment and amour to keep them alive, as they are not the nimblest of all warbands, but they don't half pack a punch.

As with all warbands cover is essential, without it you just, well DIE, so the main thing to remember is "cover is your friend" use it, it helps you and pisses off your opponent, when they can't hit you for toffee.

First of all possition whatever marksmen you have in a good possition, high up and behind partial cover, these will watch over your brave warriors. (in my warband I have two marksmen one with a blunderbuss and a brace of pistols, and the other with a hunters rifle and a crossbow pistol), this combination of weapons proves very effective at limeting your opponents movement, because if he puts just one foot out into the open then its farewell to the old fool, this also helps your warriors manover as stealthly as possible.

Now that your warriors have some freedom of movement from your marksmens cover, they can start to advance, the trick is to say out of sight to the extent that your oponenet can't even see your models with his own eyes. (Again I shall use my own warband as an example, I have one captain with a double handed sword and gromil armour, bearing in mind that a double handed weapon pluses two to the strength of the charactor this warrior is a force to be reconed with, even the bravest warrior would be better staying away he also has a brace of pistols. It is a good idea to give one of your wandering warriors a brace of pistols for added security, my other to warriors are fairly average one has a double handed axe and a brace of pistols, the other two swords(+1 attack in hand to hand) this last warrior also has a buckler so in all he can parry three attacks, this comes in very handy.)

So your warriors have skillfully manged to avoid all manner of projectiles, and you are close enough to laungh  an attack, charge you two best fighters into hand to hand combat make sure that there will be one of his warriors or cover between you and his marksmen (inside a building is a perfect place to fight,) if you can't get the cover then just pick off his men wit your pistols, if you are lucky enough to have the cover then continue. So you two best warriors are in hand to hand move the third out into a possition where he has a clear shot at his marksmen up high again remember he must be in at least partial cover, just incase he misses, takwe you shots at his marksmen, if all goes well you should have taken them down, this will leave your marksmen to take out any remaining enermy out of cover, this is where the blunderbus comes in handy shoot a shower of bullets in a thick line over as many of his men as possible, you could take out 8 or more of his men then all that is left is the hand to hand and your mighty warriors should have no trouble in dispencing of there openents. At this stage more or less all of his men should be in quite considerable pain there might the odd one standing but against three well ard dwarfs he doesn,t stand much of a chance, so now you have the upper hand and the rest as they say is "Skavens play".

Heead these words fellow warriors they have searved me well and should do the same for you.

Dwarfs are a very tough race(toughness 4) and have high weapon skill. Allways take the max 4 heroes because with the bonus on the exploration chart, you can get some good stuff. All dwarfs are only taken out of action on a roll of 6 and stunned on 3-5, so taking helms and the thick skull skill means you will most likely be stunned and you get a save of 2+. allways take an engineer as they will increase the range of missle weapons by 6 inches and you can then shhoy just out of range of the enemy shooters. If you are fighting orgres and other tough opponents, get your trollslayers the monster slayer skill as they will allways wound on a roll of 4+ (unless the roll you need is better). As a final word of advise, don't worried about being outnumbered or out manouvered because the dwarves are combat monsters and the enemy will soon feel the bite of a dwarf axe!
