Witch Hunter tactics

The Witch Hunters are primarily a hand-to-hand combat warband. All of their leadership is at 8. All of them have attacks of 1. THey have very high weapon and ballistic skill. And their flaggelents and warhounds have awesome strengh, 4. And with the flaggelents, if you arm with flails, they get 2+ combat to make them combat machines.

You shouldnīt use Witch Hunters as a Hand-to-hand combat warband. First thing Flaggelents arenīt worth the points. 40 and then another 15 for a weapon that slows them down. A tactic i have found useful is to buy warhounds and equiped your witch hunters with pistols, brace at best. Position them behind the warhounds so that they cannot be charged and use your pistol at enemies behind hand-toh-hand combat. Should you be involved in hand-to.hand combat with your witchhunters you will get the two additional attacks for the pistol.

I prefer a combo of hand to hand and some ranged fire. I arm my Witch Hunters with pistols and crossbows (usually a captain and one or two witch hunters). Three flagellents carrying flails are enough, and that is only 165 pts. That leaves a lot of points to play with when you are arming your witch hunters. I usually save enough for three war dogs as well. That is a nine warrior group that allows you forward mobility (war dogs), a heavy hand-to-hand punch (flagellents) and some ranged combat that also serve Very well as back up to the flagellents. I normally take a spell caster as well, for the added insurance.
