Tux Wonderdogs is an annual fun competition for dogs that is screened as a series on national television. The filming of the series moves to different parts of New Zealand yearly. The 1999 series was filmed at Wairarapa and most dogs and handlers for this year were from the lower North Island of NZ. 36 teams of 3 dogs and handlers were chosen to participate with 16 moving on to the semi-finals and the top four for the finals. The teams competed in obedience, agility and other fun events with each dog specialising in obedience, agility and water retrieve. I understand that this is the first time the show had a team of Dobermanns. With a relatively young team we didn't expect much and our aim was to have fun and promote the breed. The dogs behaved, we had heaps of fun and we actually did better than we'd expected by qualifying for the semis. The series will be shown on TV sometime mid 1999 over 13 weeks. Below is a series of photos taken during the 3 days we spent out in the Wairarapas.
