![]() THEY ARE COMING The biggest night of the year so far is looming as US veterans Armand Van Helden and DJ Sneak prepare to grace the Sheffield's hottest venue for what will be an event to remember. The club where trance was born has opened its doors to music from all over the spectrum with one strict proviso: it has to be outstanding. And it doesn’t come much better than this! On Sunday May 1st Gatecrasher presents Armand van Helden and DJ Sneak at Gatecrasher One. The house music legends are rarely seen under one roof, especially in the UK, so if you know your music, you’re advised to get a ticket for this one early. It will sell out. Expect all the usual world class production including breathtaking lazers and a 50k Opus soundsystem including three 1 kilowatt speakers positioned above the dancefloor for maximum bass thumpage. There are private booths available with waitress service and a 3am license. Ali G look-a-like Armand made his name as a producer for Strictly Rhythm, who released his debut single ‘Witchdoktor.’ He’s remixed everyone from Tori Amos to the Rolling Stones, and is widely credited for pioneering hip house, a subgenre of house fusing house music and hip hop. Last year he released the massive ‘My my my’ and ‘Hear my name,’ which, along with his compilation ‘New York: A mix odyssey,’ cemented his place as one of the true legends of house music. Carlos Sosa arrived in Chicago in 1983 from Puerto Rico. He earned the nickname DJ Sneak as a graf artist in the city, before becoming one of the most respected DJs in the industry. The word cheese isn’t in Sneak’s vocabulary. In fact, he’s so underground, he cut the word cheese out of every dictionary in his house. From the moment he released ‘You can’t hide from your bud,’ he was hailed as the pioneer of filtered house and is now lauded for playing anything from banging Chicago house to chunky latin grooves. The one thing you know for sure is, if Sneak plays it, it ain’t been on Top of the Pops. Armand and Sneak are no strangers, having worked together on several Strictly Rhythm releases and DJed together countless times around the globe. But getting the pair under one roof in the UK is special and, as they say about the lottery, you can’t win if you don’t get a ticket! Tickets: Gatecrasher presents Armand van Helden and DJ sneak @ Gatecrasher One, Sheffield, Sunday May 1st, 9pm-4am, 15 pounds. GO HERE Home > Clubland > ^top ![]() |
