![]() CREAM'S BIRTHDAY BASH, OCTOBER 9TH Returning once again to Nation, Cream’s dedicated were out in force for a night of full on house music antics. The buzz surrounding any event that Cream throws down in Liverpool is always immense, and October 9th was no different. This night was to once again be all about Erick Morillo, who stormed the main room back in April this year. The venue was busy right from the off, with a number of people looking a little worse for wear even before midnight. As people flooded through the doors the music rolled out onto unsuspecting ears. The courtyard was playing host to ‘Cream Classics,’ and it was more than refreshing to breeze in every now and then and be greeted by such delights as ‘Hideaway’ and ‘Plastic Dreams.’ Nostalgia aside, the courtyard played host to a damn good party all night, even if numbers dwindled slightly towards the end. Perhaps an earlier set time for the legendary Graeme Park would have been more appropriate. The Annexe is a curious little room, and thankfully it never got excessively busy and so it was easy to enjoy what Liverpool’s finest, Circus, were doing in there. Lewis Boardman held the fort until a rather late Yousef turned up and did his thing in style, busting out house music like only the scouse maestro can do. 3 a.m. came around and it was time for the man with the curious face, Timo Maas, to bring his usual medley of tech house and electro. The vibe was fairly dark and not to everyone’s liking, but the twisted basslines alone were enough to keep most people captivated until the early hours. In the main room Shapeshifters had taken to the decks. The room was absolutely full to the brim, and finding space became quite a challenge. The music had a slightly kitsch pop tinge to it, but it was enjoyable in the same vein as Lola’s Theme has been for the past few months. Inoffensive and good to dance to, Shapeshifters were a lot of fun and the perfect prelude to the main event. The highlight of the night, of course, was always going to be Senor Morillo and his impeccable tune selection, and he did not disappoint. Nobody has a record box full of delights quite like Morillo, and there were surprises and treats galore in store for the bustling crowd. Once again the man himself was having a great time behind the decks and the crowd truly buzzed off this. The atmosphere was intense and something it’s not easy to forget. It’s all too easy to find yourself on the dance-floor in front of Morillo thinking ‘What is this tune?! What is this tune?!’ but to really enjoy one of his sets is to just let yourself go with it. Awesome. All in all the night was an incredible success. The crowd were varied but inviting and the event ran smoothly. All we ask is that there are more of these round the corner.
