During the remainder of my report I will be talking about the history of Sasktel, and how Sasktel has helped Saskatchewan. I and my partner, Brandon, will be informing you on how Sasktel became such an important part of Saskatchewan and our history. Brandon and I chose this topic because we wanted to learn how Sasktel helped Saskatchewan. In doing so we found many interesting facts about Sasktel that not many people know. We had fun researching this topic. In doing this we hope we will educate many people on this topic, Sasktel, and we hope every one will like it as much as we do. Questions: 1.) Who was the founder of Sasktel? 2.) How does the Sasktel plant work? 3.) How many Employees work their each year? 4.) How long has Sasktel been a company, and how many changes has the plant undergone? 5.) How has Sasktel helped Saskatchewan through the years? Answers: June 12/68 the small company Telephone Acts took on the name Sasktel about a decade after Bell’s invention of the telephone. Since then Sasktel has expanded by buying Salt coats district Phone Company in 1911. And in the same year Sasktel bought the North western Phone company (Saskatoon) and the Swift Current Phone System. In 57 the Sasktel plant was run by a Trans Canada Microwave relay System. It then gained a second microwave system to power the plant. In 79 they added a digital switching system to take the place of the phone operators. It then underwent another change to a fiber optic Broadband network in 82. The final change sasktel made a final change to a digital network. Every year sasktel hires about 160 employees and fires around that many a year. There are 12 people on the board. There are 9 executive members. Overall in the Sasktel Team there are around 3500 people to operate the phone systems in both the Sasktel plant and the Sasktel call center. Sasktel has been a company since 1908 and has had many changes like employees finances the way they operate the systems the systems they use the way we go on the internet and the phones we use. Sasktel has helped Saskatchewan many ways through the years like donating $4000000 to the telcare program. |
