Danza Contigo Perú's
MARINERA

The Marinera is Perú’s national dance and it was named by Abelardo Gamarra, Peruvian author, in honor of Admiral Grau and the Peruvian Navy (Navy in Spanish is Marina).

Each region or department of Perú offers its own rendition.

La Marinera Norteña, is one of many interpretations. La Marinera Norteña exemplifies the coastal flavor of the Northern cities of Peru, such as Lambayeque.

Its is singled out by the characteristic accompaniment of a municipal band. The dancers gracefully raise and wave their handkerchiefs. The male-landlord, as if riding a horse, chases the barefoot female-peasant in hopes of winning her love.
