My Closest Friend

When I first set my eyes on you
I didn't really care
but you reflected every part of me
and all I did was stare

We got caught up in hussle and pain
the dark of youth so crazed
My back and heart they turned
I couldn't look at you some days

With passing time we grew in age,
in body, soul and heart
while living our entire lives
a universe apart

But still able to compromise
we took on life and all it's twists
We weren't as close as we should have been
but we learnt to co exist

So, now we've come to be my friend
we try to love and live
It's been easy to take strength from you
when I refused to give

When I stand across from you
I'm closer every day
You can look me in the eye and smile;
"I love you anyway"

It took me years to come about
to look within and see:
My closest friend in need of love
MY CLOSEST FRIEND IS ME.
