| “I had the dream again... It was worse this time though…” Enlos mumbled to one of his friends, picking over his school lunch. “You know they really should make the food out of actual food, and not this rubber they call chicken…” “Yeah I know let’s take it outside and give it the bounce test, I bet it will flunk.” Arour Enlos’s best friend said looking at what was supposed to be chicken salad, but looked more like barf with rubber chunks. “So what one was it?” “The dream?” Arour nodded. “Well it was worst than the one about the healer and the green gold dragon. It was well, I was a dark sotra one, and maybe we should talk about it outside.” He said pushing his chicken salad to one of his other friends who for some reason really liked anything the evil lunch ladies could cook. “Okay sure. Hey bob leave some of that chicken crap so we can see if it bounces!” Arour said. He got up dragging Bob away from some of the chicken stuff and Enlos followed them. He walked past the soda machines and out onto the small picnic area. Enlos hopped onto one of the tables and sighed. Arour grabbed some of the chicken stuff and threw it at the ground; it bounced at hit one of the sixth graders playing basketball. She turned around and looked at Arour. “Did you see that Bob?” He asked poking Bob in the back, Bob nodded. “Attack of the flying chicken crap!” He yelled and threw another handful at the group of girls crowded around a table. They looked up at him and laughed. “Hey girlies! Watch out for flying chicken!” Chucking another handful at them, he jumped down of the table and sat besides Enlos. A tall popular boy walked over and sat in front of Enlos. “Hey kid what the hell went wrong with you when they pulled you out of the gene pool? Did they get you mixed up with an elf?” He said and the gang that was around him laughed. “What the hell happened to you?” Arour said standing up besides him. “I mean when you look in the mirror you can’t tell the difference between you and a piece of this chicken crap.” Enlos smiled softly. Arour always stood up to the bullies that picked on Enlos because of his ears, he was a good friend. Enlos would do it himself but he was much too shy. Arour looked at the other guys angrily. He spotted a girl in about 7th grade and at her her. “Hey gilrie. What’s up with you? You’ve got ears as big as Enlos’s, if not larger.” The girl looked up at him and let her hair fall over her larger-than normal ears. “I wouldn’t talk if I were you, Or you might end up in your chicken stuff.” She strutted away followed by her the mean guy and the rest of the gang. Arour stood up and chucked a piece of chicken stuff at them. It hit the girl in the back and she whirled around. She smiled evilly, came over, and sat next to Enlos. She glared at Arour. “If you even try that again I’ll kick your butt personally.” She looked at Enlos. “See you around sometime huh?” Enlos choked on air. “Uh sure.” He stammered and looked back at the girl, she was about his height and she had lovely blue eyes with whitish blonde hair. She got up and walked away not strutting but sort gliding. Enlos smiled and looked over at Arour he mouthed ‘ha ha’. Enlos leaned in his seat, he watched Arour mutter something about the chicken stuff and look at his watch. The bell rang and Enlos picked up his over stuffed binder and headed off to the archery part of gym class, his favorite section ******* “Hold the arrow on the bowstring pull back and release.” The gym teacher was saying to a student who kept shooting arrows up at the ceiling. Enlos rolled his eyes; it was the cranky eighth grader who had made fun of his ears. HE looked curiously at one of his arrows. He put it up to the bowstring pulled back aimed and zzoooomm the arrow flew threw the air and hit the target dead center. The gym class fell silent and looked towards Enlos with curious eyes. “Enlos…how did you do that?” The teacher asked walking up to him. He shrugged and stepped back to let the cranky eighth grader try. The eighth grader fumbled with the bow and pulled back, the arrow went zooming into the target hitting right next to Enlos’s. “Your turn loser.” The eighth grader mumbled at him as he walked past Enlos. Enlos pulled another arrow from the quiver he was given and set it to the bowstring, the arrow flew threw the air and split the eighth grader’s arrow in two. The whole class clapped and tried their hand at shooting at the targets. Enlos laughed slightly, now the eighth graders would not pick on him in gym class at least… *********** Enlos stirred in his sleep, he was having a strange dream, stranger than normal. He was riding a white decorated horse, the same horse he remembered, that he had been riding in one of his past dreams. In that dream, he dreamt of an ocean, with blood red water and dead bodies. That dream had scared him even more when he had seen bright red eyes bulging out at him from the bushes. This time no eyes where seen in the bushes and he was relived to here no sound of tides coming in and out. His horse neighed softly and pranced lightly. Enlos kicked the horse lightly and the horse took off into the forest. He raced pass giant oaks that had faces of evil things and into a clearing where a large white bird stood. He approached the bird. It chirped many times and then spoke to him in ancient tongue know only to the creatures and people of the forest: “go back! He is waiting! He is waiting! He needs you and you need him! Be not pestered anymore! He is calling! Answer his call! The bird chirped and a loud roar ran through Enlos’s mind. Enlos awoke in cold sweat watching the image of the large white bird evaporate into thin air. Blinking slightly he thought he saw a large white creature in front of him but when his vision became clear it was only his dog. Ranger rolled over and when back to sleep. ************ Enlos sat up and looked at his ceiling wearily. Another dream had disturbed him. He was once again riding the decorated horse. This time however, was different; he walked over to a reflection pool. He looked into and saw a refection of himself. He was wearing a dark-brown green outfit, lined with a gold material. His shirt was long sleeved and fell down over his knees. The shirt had a slit in it, on Enlos’s left hip, it was not a mistake the slit was intentional; it was outlined in gold also. His pants were the same muddy green brown and looked somewhat like blue jeans, (besides the color; they had pockets and a belt loop) and were baggy and were baggy at the bottom. The ‘brown jeans’ covered the top of thick boots, made of the finest leather Enlos had ever seen. They when up to his knees but only laced half way up, to about the mid leg. They had four gold buckles on them and their sole’s were made of quality rubber. Over his brownish outfit, he wore a cloak made of thick dark green material. The edges of his cloak were slightly frayed from were but it looked quite sturdy. The hood of this cloak had a fine tassel of gold string, and the clap was made of a gold chain with a small leaf on the end. Enlos looked at his hands, he wore leather gloves without the finger parts. On his back was a strong bow made of some unknown bendable wood. He also had a quiver filled with 12 eagle feather arrows. Enlos pulled one out and put it up to the bow. He pulled back and looked at a small oak tree. He squinted then released the arrow; Zzzzoomm the arrow sped through the air and hit the tree right where Enlos was hoping for it to hit. He laughed now I won’t be caught off guard the one thing I’m good at in school besides agility…he thought to himself. He leaned over the pool and looked at his face. He had the same golden blonde hair he always had, and the same dark green eyes, but his hair was longer and neatly cut off at shoulder length. It was tied back into a half ponytail at the back and a few lose strands fell over his shoulders. He brushed one back and discovered that his ears had grown to become extremely pointy. On his left ear, he had three bands of gold, and one dangling leaf earring. He looked down to his neck and saw a golden necklace with the same dangling leaf. He looked at his horse. “So I’m and elf?” He asked her shrugging. He walked over to him to get a good look. The horse had a beautiful white mane and body lightly flecked with sliver and tan. His eyes were beautiful blue and wild looking. He had a dark brownish saddle to match Enlos’s outfit. His saddle was western looking, with two bands that ran from his shoulder down to the bottom of his chest, where they connected to the saddle belt. He had the same in the back but they ended just below his tail. There were greenish brown socks upon his ankles and a golden paint on his hoofs. Enlos bent down over to examine the hoofs and found that it was not paint the horse’s hoofs were really gold. He looked up to the horse. “So do you have a name?” He asked searching the horse. He whinnied softly. He looked at the horse’s saddle and saw engraved in gold a name in curly fine print, it read: ‘Miriah’. “Is your name Miriah?” he asked the horse. It stamped its feet and neighed. “That means you’re a girl?” he asked. She neighed loudly as if to say “duh.” Enlos laughed and mounted the horse. ******************************************* Enlos blinked a few times and sat up. He looked around him and found he was in the middle of a forest. He blinked and rubbed his eyes. “Oh my Gosh!” He yelled and hopped onto his feet looking around. He saw Miriah, who he deiced was his horse, a campfire still smoldering and a small man with pointy ears staring at him. He ran to his horse and hid behind her, pretending he did not see the man. He looked over himself and found he was wearing the clothes that he had dreamed about last night. “Miriah, where am I !!!???” He yelled. “You are in Alskyr, to be exact; the territory of the elves.” The little man said smiling at him and walking over to him. “I’m Rordir and you are Enlos right?” He asked. Enlos nodded. “You are the lost heir of Enlosis the maiden of the falls, and Miriah over there has brought you back to us!” he hugged Enlos “Wow ok…I guess….” Enlos said. He heard a shuffling and looked over to his left, he saw a blue dragon watching him. “Who is that?” he asked. “That is my dragon Rudrik he said I’m his rider. Your mother wants you to ride a dragon…” He said walking over to his blue. “Why? Me ride? No way...but I’m and elf?” He asked. He looked to Miriah. “What dose ‘Miriah’ mean?” he asked. “Because she is a rider and dragons are faithful companions, yes you ride, and yes you’re an elf, an elf prince. Miriah that means ‘the wind’ in our tongue..” Rordir said. “Fine I know a little about dragon riding and Weyrs and stuff from my dreams, but where should I impress?” he asked patting Miriah. He liked her a lot she was very beautiful. “First you should know a little about how you disappeared.” Rordir said smiling. “Your mother is Enlosis, maiden of the falls, as I have already told you, and your father is wing leader D’lun and rider of light bronze Sanitinack. When you were about two your were out in the woods riding your pony Miriah.” Miriah snorted indignity. “Hey you were a pony back then.” He looked at the horse that was stamping her feet angrily. “Okay okay you were riding the fastest pony any of us have ever seen. You your father and me were hunting for tonight’s supper, but you were lost from us and some how found a portal to earth. Miriah did not leave the place where you vanished from and finally after hours of research we found that the portal led to earth. The portal however was inactive, meaning we could not go and retrieve you from earth without getting stuck there ourselves. We called upon Gadrel, the one who can contact people through dreams. She was the one who appeared to you as the white bird in your dream, and she is also the one who reopened the portal so you could get back to us, but only Miriah would go in to retrieve you.” He said looking over at Miriah who neighed approvingly. “Now to the business of your dragon, normally we would send you to were most of us impressed our dragons, Azon Weyr in the South, but there are no eggs left from the last clutch. The Weyrleader there is Sargon and we came to him asking for advice since he is our Wyerleader.” He looked up at Enlos who was fiddling with his ears. “Oh dear me! I almost forgot! The wing I am in is called Forest Edge wing and we want you to be the next wing leader! This puts an awful burden on you though. It is hard to get bronzes to come to you. Nevertheless, if you succeed you may be wing leader when your father retires. Plus it would help to have a young bronze to catch Hope’s gold.” Rordir said smiling and leaning back slightly. “Ahh...Hope I have forgotten to tell you, Hope is the fair young maiden who has come to our wing, don’t be fooled by appearances though cause she’s a ball of fire! Ah...she sort of glides when she walks…” He laughed and gestured to Enlos. Enlos looked at him and stopped fidgeting with his ears. He thought for a second. “Did she have blonde hair and blue eyes?” He asked, remembering the seventh grader who had been hit by Arour’s flying chicken crap. “Yes sort of a white blonde hair with bright blue eyes. “He smiled. “She came back to check on you, you know.” He looked over at Enlos who came and sat next to him. “Yes I know now, she was the 7th grader with that cranky 8th grade guy. So she’s an elf too then what about her…Oh...” Enlos said remembering that her hair had fallen over her ears, hiding them. “Yeah… your lucky if you impress a bronze good enough to fly her gold, her gold is Zorik the queen egg of your mom’s dragon’s clutch.” Rordir said beaming. He sure was a happy fellow. “So your saying my Zorik, hope’s gold, is daughter of my mom’s gold?” Enlos asked a little confused with Rordir’s words. He nodded. “Now where should you impress your dragon at? We could got to…” He said looking up at the figure that approached them. It was a blonde haired girl with bright blue eyes dressed in the same sort of outfit Enlos and Rordir where wearing. She looked up at Enlos and smiled. “Oh hello Hope, I believe you know Enlos already...” She sat next to Rordir and nodded. “We were just discussing the place at which Enlos should impress his dragon.” “Well…Zorik hatched at Azon along with half of our wing’s dragons…. Wait. …Where is Sargon’s son’s dragon from?” She asked Rordir. “Who is Sargon and yeah who is his son?” Enlos added a little confused. Hope looked up at him coming out of her thought. “Sargon is Weyrleader of Azon Weyr the place where most of our dragons are from. His son is named…Sky, I think…and oh yes! He is from Baeris Kshau’s Healing Den!” she said sitting down. Enlos looked up at her and smiled. “Baeris?” He asked standing up. “The rider of gold green Dultah?” He said walking over to Miriah and stroking her absentmindedly. “Yes who did you know that?” Rordir said his huge eyes bulging. Hope looked at him to with a look of pure shock. Enlos laughed slightly. “Maybe it isn’t such a curse to see the future while I sleep.” He said mounting his horse and gesturing to Rordir to follow, he was off to the healing den to impress a dragon. Rordir sat firm. “You must go on your on Enlos, go and remember, He is waiting, and he has waited long.” With that, Rordir nodded, bowed, and looked to Hope. She nodded to Enlos and she and Rordir walked silently off into the shadows. “Well, I guess this is it, Miriah, We’re off to the Den!” *** Enlos was enjoying his stay at the healing den, I was very interesting lots of neat people. He had met a girl called Vainia how could make ice at her will and her 'boyfriend' Vale, who was just plain odd. He liked them though, they where very nice. He had decided to go take a look at the sands one day and found to his surprise that one of the eggs was shaking. "The eggs are shaking!?" He called out and watched the people around him look down. "The elf's right! Tell Baeris!" Someone to his left said. He smiled and raced back up to tell Vainia and Vale. It was time for a hatching! Enlos was begging to wonder if he should be here, almost all the 'active' eggs had hatched and he was begging to grow doubtful. He watched as a group of eggs from Corlath's nest shook. A stunning red-brown bonded to Vainia's sister and the next egg to break bonded to Vainia herself. She was a beautiful white-sliver called Jaath. Enlos turned to watch the next egg, a large brown-bronze-ish break open. He walked out of his egg like a cat after a long nap, twisting his back and yawning. He brought with him a stunning red-orange-gold. They where both stunningly beautiful but Enlos could only see the bronze-brown. He was beautiful, his underside and under-wings where patterned by a brownish flame, and the other part of his body was a creamy bronze. He had two brown horns mounted on the top of his head that looked sharp and dangerous. His eyes shown green and he almost smiled with them as Enlos walked towards him, drawn to him by some unknown presence. "Your name is Izamkyr? Isn't it?" Enlos said finding the dragon's name somewhere in his head. "This is all so wild..." This time it isn't a dream Enlos, I have waited... The dragon spoke carefully into Enlos' head, he had a very deep strong voice for a hatchling. Enlos smiled. "I came for you...some how I came..." He lead the dragon off the sands to meet back up with Rordir, and make his way to the Forests Edge, to meet his family. |
