| "It's your fault!" Ben Kingsley blames Shandling (rightfully so) for the godawful script he wrote for a film that would anger even Ghandi. | |||||||||||||||
| When the director of the masterpiece "The Graduate," the star of the awards-laden TV series "Larry Sanders" and the co-star of 1999's Best Picture Oscar winner "American Beauty" all come together to make a comedy abou the misunderstandings between men and women, one would at lease expect an entertaining hour-and-a-half, right? Well, in this case, such a diverse cast of talent converges much like riotes: in a frenzy of chaos and in utter misdirection and bungling. Mike Nichol's helms this unfunny, plodding story, which stars the surprisingly unfunny Garry Shandling as an alien sent to Earth to impregnate a human being, played equally bad by the usually fantastic and radiant Annette Bening. Other members of the cast include the woefully miscast and misused John Goodman and Greg Kinnear. What went wrong here his obviously the painfully dull script that's method for big laughs is a constantly whirring phallus. This joke, much like the rest of the movie, incudes eye-rolling, sighing, and yawning. As far as the MPAA's R-rating goes, this film is easily a PG-13 movie - what the hell is with the MPAA? They equate this film's light, awfully dumb humor with Scary Movie??? |
