You did so much
in too brief a life,
touching millions
and easing their strife.
Wherever there was suffering
you would be there,
and where people were forgotten
you would make us care.
But in August '97
while your homeland slept,
the cold hand of death
across your body swept.
When the news was broken
we listened in disbelief,
never had so many
shared in a single grief.
Memories of you
in our hearts we'll keep,
and at your tragic passing
a whole world did weep.
