at PCC.
Dear Friends of
Persian Music,
Ostad Omoumi's stay at University of Washington (Seattle) has
been extended for 1 year thru June 2005.
Starting in January 2005 Dr. Omoumi will be teaching individuals
and groups in Southern California one weekend each month.
This
is a great opportunity for
all musicians
- especially singers and ney-players - to learn from a master teacher. Other instrumentalists will also find that learning the vocal
radif will not only help them play better with singers, but also transform the sound
and articulation
on their instruments. I know it has
helped my tar playing to sound more 'pronounced' (a quality I love in Ostad
Lotfi's style). Dr. Omoumi has studied
with vocal radif masters Davami,
and his student Karimi,
and based on his upbringing in the style of Esfahan (which is centered on the
voice), is an excellent source for the vocal rendition of Persian classical
music. Through his creativity and many
years of teaching he has developed a teaching style and repertoire that make
learning easy for beginners and non-Persian-speakers, as well as advanced students.
Let’s get enough students to invite Dr. Omoumi to San Diego for lessons.
