The David Anthology (1994-1996)

track list and review by DASJr
September 1, 1997

In May of 1995, I put together a tape of various recordings I had made from my last two years of high school to my first two semesters of college. Instead of just making it for myself, I gave over thirty copies of it to my friends of that year.
The tape included a ten-page booklet of liner notes, much like "The Beatles Anthology."
Sources for this collection were audio tapes (including home recordings) and, thanks to a hook-up between my stereo and my VCR, video tapes of various shows I had done.
The sound quality ranges from good to merely acceptable. Luckily, the quality of the stereo used to make the master compilation, as well as the copies, was much better than that of a portable stereo.
The following is a list of the tracks that were on it. Tracks with an asterisk (*) indicate performances strictly by friends, and they are tracks that I don't perform on. Info is given with each track on what show/event it was from:

COMMENTS: An idea that was toyed with, but not fully developed, back in Winter of 1995. When March 1996 came along, I got a new stereo, and was not only able to make higher-quality dubs of other tapes, but also to make audio dubs from VHS tapes.
The tape itself was put together with both me and my friends in mind, complete with tracks that would be familiar to them, including either songs they knew, or performances they were involved in with me.
As for the material, it's not always great.
The first two tracks were taped at a high speed, so the voices sound low and slowed-down whenever the tape is played back (I've only recently made a tape that plays the material at its more correct speed).
Plently of my solo vocal performances (i.e. "Hey Jude", "Long and Winding Road") were so-so, with me barely knowing piano chords, and still trying to figure out how to sing.
The T.E.D. selections (i.e. "Massengil"), featuring me and two others clowning around at my house, are also a little hard to listen to, especially if you don't have a sense of humor.
All in all, a tape that reveals talents as well as flaws. But it's an interesting artifact, and was good practice for my future projects.

Performers on each track were as follows:

SIDE ONE:

1 & 2. EHS Art Club and EHS Chorus members. Included: DASJr, Heidi Hilligoss, Amber LaBella, Erin Richardson, Holly Shaw, and Jessica Fazzary.
3 & 4. DASJr, talking over a montage of excerpts from '70's and '90's songs.
5, 6, & 22. The EHS Chorus of Fall 1994, including DASJr.
7. EHS choral groups, including DASJr, and featuring Pat Smith, Mike Jackson, and Steve Balloma.
8. DASJr's duet with Kate Lally. Allison Masteller plays piano.
9. A duet between Allison Masteller and Sarah Van Etten.
10 & 11. Cast of "Lady, Be Good!," featuring DASJr and Dan Puccio on Track 10, and Eric English, Erin Hogan, and Leo Stermole on Track 11.
12 & 13. DASJr, talking along with a montage of bits from '60's and '90's tunes.
14. Another Dave, a.k.a. DASJr on piano chords and vocals, and John Martino on drums. Bart Lanahan, Geoff O'Brien, and Casey Danielson appear briefly to do some back-up vocals. NOTE: Because my mom missed taping the first few seconds of this performance, I had to edit the beginning on from two pieces that appear later in the track.
15. Snafu, with Grahm Pepperman on bass, Buddy Rogers on lead guitar, Emmet Van-Etten on drums, and Aaron Goldman on vocals.
16 - 21. T.E.D., a.k.a. Tom Peet, Emily Savino, and DASJr.

SIDE TWO:

1. The Chevettes, with DASJr on lead vocal (last-minute replacement for someone else), and Adam Youngs on some backing vocals.
2. Adam Youngs (lead vocal) and Steve Terwilliger (backing vocals and guitar). NOTE: Because of space limitations, an inconsequential minute of this track (which included a temporary breakdown) was edited off of the "Anthology" master.
3. Dr. Jim Hudson on keyboard and vocal.
4. Cast of the musical revue, including DASJr. Tracks 4-9 and 11-12 have Pam Dewolf on piano, and Mike Gilboy on drums.
5. Features duet vocals by me and Laura Fusare.
6. Liz Brill, Jill Demonstoy, Heather Dunning, and Anne Jackson, with a piece of dialogue by Hank Moonschein (from the same rehearsal tape) edited on before it.
7. Dan Puccio and Amber LaBella.
8. Heather Dunning.
9. Cast of the revue, including DASJr, and featuring Marilyn Puccio, Dick Puccio, Heather Dunning, Ernie Danforth, Fran Wells, Dan Puccio, Alex Feulner, Erik Arnesen, and B.J. Smith.
10. Men II Boyz (according to the Karaoke DJ) a.k.a. DASJr, Chris Callas, Mark Barnes, and Chris Fieno. NOTE: The announcer's intro is from an amateur recording, while the song is from the line recording of the same performance.
11. Cast of the revue, including DASJr, and featuring B.J. Smith.
12. Amber La Bella.
13 & 14. CCC Chorus, including DASJr. NOTE: The rehearsal performance used for Track 13 was stopped halfway through the number. It was restarted from just before the spot where it was cut off. Therefore, to make the track complete, the two parts had to be edited together on the "Anthology" master.
15. Cast of "Seven Brides for Dracula" including DASJr.
16. Bill Bishop, with back-up vocals by DASJr, Adam Youngs, Laura Fusare, and Jill Demonstoy.
17. DASJr's duet with Jill Demonstoy, with a dialgoue piece by Clare Reidy (from the same video) edited on afterwards.
18. DASJr alone on vocals and piano chords, with a DASJr dialogue piece (from the same video) edited on afterwards.
