In Me

by David Alan Scott Jr.
December 3, 1996

In my life, I am a loser
And I have lost

In my mind, I am a lover
And I have loved

In my heart, I am a dreamer
And I have dreams

In my soul, I am a spirit
And I have faith

In my body is my mind
In my mind, I have a heart
In my heart, I have a soul
In my soul, I am a winner

In my life, I am a lover
And I love you all.

PUBLICATION: The Crier, Vol. 35, No. 4, December 1, 1997, Corning Community College.

HISTORY: One of those poems that just came to me in the middle of the night, it took a year (almost exactly!) for me to get it published, partially due to the unorganized Crier staff during my '96-'97 college year, and partly because I had earlier writings that I was wanted to publish first.
Written with one sad eye facing the past (and one hopeful eye looking towards the future), "In Me" has been a personal favorite of mine since when I first wrote it. It's the better of the two poems I contributed to that particular issue of the paper.
