by Charis Sumatra's story (Aboriginee Rules) Sumatra sat in the large chamber, wondering why he was there, and more important, what the noise was outside. His Aboriginee nation was in turmoil, in fact on the brink of civil war, and to make matters worse, the king had just been assasinated. And he thought his Gothic training was hard... "You see, you are our only hope to unite the factions!" As odd as this sounded, it was also true. Sumatra was now the most able in the new Goth program, initiated when their alliance was formed last year. Yet he had grown up among the Aboriginal Barbarians (the loudest faction), and his mother was high priestess in the traditional Serpentine society (the most powerful faction). And the crucial metalworkers Guild (without whom no one could stay in power) required an expert metal worker. If that weren't enough, there was a contingency of superstitious tribal hunters to deal with. No other ABO in the tribe was better qualified. "For the next king must...," they began to describe, have earned the Barbarian Lord title (clear hell with no return to town, and no juju), be an accomplished Serpentine power wielder, as well as excel in Gothic training. Sumatra's felling of NM-Viperflame, who dropped a most auspicious Dragon's Ring of Harmony, made him ready for the task. The next point of discussion would be HOW he would prove his worthiness to be the next King. AboGrog spoke - "You already BAR Lord. That hardur than 1000 juju trials. You punch Lazrus in face we be happy. Oh, and we be VERY happy if you block spells, not resist!!" The metalworker's guild wanted his golden run to be done using only the finest of metals, platinum and mithril, and quality items of structure. The Goth Ambassador insisted that the Gothic emblems be proudly displayed during the run. The serpentines (who both fear and revere snakes and covet their power) wanted to see serpentine magic win the day. The tribal hunters virtually demanded a sacred artifact be used, and that some stealthful hunting and boss assasination be done. "It shall be done as ALL of you wish!" This received confused stares from the entire audience. "How can this be???!" There are four levels to the pits of hell. One will be done in serpetine fashion, using naught but spells and wearing snake and serpent jewels. One level shall be in full Gothic regalia, for manly melee, using the finest metals and craftsmanship. One level will be done as the superstitions would dictate, in darkness and with hybrid artifacts. And one level shall be done as the Aboriginee Barbarians would do it. - Level 13 - Lava maws and Cave vipers did meet young Sumatra. The speed of the dogs, the susceptibility to lightning, and the presense of the vipers dictated the Serpentine path be chosen. Reptilian power would dominate the level, gear: A wondrous Gothic shield found in his first dot run, Emerald Ages, Amber Goth Plate of Sorcery, Serpent's Heaven's Ring, Snake's Mind Ring and Serpent's Stars Amulet. Crystal Crown of structure and a lustrous Platinum Sword of the Heavens completed the wardrobe. On occasion the dart of a tranquilizer blowgun was used to immobilize the victims. - Level 14 - Counselors and Snow Witches. Now he sought to win over the Barbarian faction. He wore a plain Chain mail shirt, a well crafted buckler, and a tasteful gold ring, along with a Platinum Broad Sword of Speed. Oft was heard the 'ching' of a blood star or firebolt being blocked. Oft too did he take an unexpected trip back to town and visit Pepin with 1hp. When the level was 1/2 cleared the stairs down were found. - Level 15 - Stealth and superstition were at the fore, against Steel Lords and Snow Witches. The superstitious sword, Bringer of Doom, and the fearful Shield of Storms were worn, along with his favorite Obsidian Plate of Structure, and Iron Ring of Night, Steel Amulet of Dark. No juju infravision spells were cast, which made things rather scary! After laz was slain though, some natural pool water was found to help the vision (albeit murky), and the pentragram thus was discovered. - Level 16 - An Awesome Gothic Plate of the utmost quality was selected, for its structural quality (no suffix). Similarly, a Godly Gothic Shield of Ages and Godly Great Helm of Ages were donned for the battle. A Meteoric Long Sword of Structure had the duration to last the battle. Serpent's Perfection, Gold Precision, and a Silver Amulet of Precision completed the setup. Fortunately the stairs were next to Diablo, and almost all advocates avoided. The battle raged for some time but in the end, regent Sumatra emerged victorious! The nation at last had a new king, and celebrated Sumatra by raising their coffee mugs :) Charis |
