Isis's Priestesses and Priests in the
               Ancient World
In Ancient Egypt, the Mysteries of Isis and Osiris may have included the shutting0up of the initiate in a sarcophagus.  Many of the temples have underground crypts which may have been used as an 'underworld' where the initiate must 'pass through' on their journey.  Although while the evidence of this is sparce, there may have been a 'sacred marriage' in which a Priestess and Priest took part in a sexual ritual which would honor the concievment of Isis's son, Horus.
The Initiation of one would include many months of study and rites to pass, before admitted to being a Priest or Priestess.  Long months or years with many documents memorized, many rituals faithfully preformed, and much dedication and unquestiongly loyalty to the gods and goddesses before their time of Initiation would come.
