Isis's relations with other Dieties | |||||||||||||||||||||
Isis and Osiris Born brother and sister in the womb of Nut, in life they fell in love with each other. After Osiris is killed by their brother Set, Isis revived him and concieves a child, Horus, from him. Isis is often portrayed standing behind the throne of Osiris, usually with one hand on the back of the chair. She is also seen standing behind Osiris with Her wings forming a sacred protective space around him. |
Isis and Nepthys The connection between them is a ancient one, the two twin goddesses. Nepthys is accepted by Isis as Her companion after Osiris is killed,even though Nepthys's son Anubis was fatherd by Osiris- whom she had seduced to find happiness. Nepthys never leaves her sister's side,joining Isis in Her mourning, helping Isis and Anubis find Osiris and then ressurecting him. |

Isis and Horus Isis concieved Horus after reviving Osiris. Horus is commonly portrayed as a well-built hawk headed man. Isis and Horus represent both a fierce and mutually nuturing mother-son attachment. |

Isis and Anubis Anubis, who is also known as 'Anpu' helped Isis in Her search to find the body of Osiris, and with Her is said to have created the art of enbalming. Isis rescued Anubis when Her sister Nepthys (out of fear from Set, her brother) abandoned him in the desert. Isis then found and raised him. Anubis is Isis's constant companion and faithful guardian. |
Isis and Set The powerful energies of Set are sometimes represented as a chained crocodile or hippopotamus, with the end of the chain being held by Isis, indicating his submission to Her. Under this, the powers of Set are said to be the dominion of Isis and can be used for benevolent purposes. |

Isis and Thoth Thoth helped Isis to escape the prison in which Set places Her after the death of Osiris. It is Thoth who gives the breath of life to the newly-born god, Osiris as he is born from the body of Nut. Thoth is generally depicted as an ibis-headed god with a writing tablet. |

Isis and Hathor Isis and Hathor were portrayed as almost exactly the same, especially as the Divine Nurse to the Pharaoh. Both are crowned with horns and the crescent. Hathor often wears a band around her head, tied in the back. Isis generally does not wear this ribbon. |

Isis and Bast The cat goddess Bast was frequently associated with Isis, and cats were common in the temples of Isis. The Egyptian Bast can be broken down into Ba-Ast, which can be translated into the "Soul of Isis". Bast is presented as a cat-headed woman, or, as a cat. |

Isis and the Scorpion Goddesses When Isis fled from the prison Set had put Her in. She was then accompanied by the Seven Scorpion Goddesses. Tefen and Befen were behind Her, Mestet and Mestetef on each side of Her, Petet, Thetet and Matet were in front clearing a way for Her. Selket was another scorpion goddess associated with Isis. Isis-Selket is an extremly protective aspect of the Goddess, and not to be used lightly. Her fiery nature in this form should be used with caution. |
