D'lon and Bronze Dalinoth train hard to learn how to chew firestone, go Between and fight thread.
Did you see how well I flew? Dalinoth bespoke his rider cheerfully.

"I did," D'lon replied. "Soon we'll be flying with a wing, I know you can do it better than so many others..." D'lon's endless praise gave his dragon a desire to trumpet his love loudly!

My rider and I will become leaders -- you all will see! Dalinoth proclaimed.

D'lon looked around and tried to seem humble. But after his dragon was so sure -- and he was sure as well of course -- that they would rise to any occasion, how could he really be humble?

On a Bronze?

One as beautiful, clever and fast as Dalinoth?
"Could this be any cooler?" D'lon yelled from Diamoth's neck.

I do not think so, my rider. It is very breezy up here.

"Such the comedian! Look there's Alabaster! Announce yourself, Dalinoth!"

The great bronze bugled huge waves of noise, and D'lon laughed.

The watch dragon pair warily let them land.

"D'lon, this is a treat. Are you back for good now?" Daverin asked.

"Yeah, and I need to find a weyr to hold this big old bronze of mine!"

The way he said it was like every time he thought about it, it made him giddy. He was a bronze rider!

"Oh, the guys wanted me to tell you, there's a secret meeting at the Mesa."

"The guys? The mesa? What ... which guys? Dav? What are you talking about?"

"Oh, sorry..." Daverin gave her typical half-assed smirk. "The guys, you know, the Protectorate guys. Shard and them. Well, not him, but some of his ... testosterone pals. The mesa, out there in the desert. I think if you ask Dalinoth he'll know." She waved at him, and disappeared into the weyr.

"How do you know then?" D'lon asked his dragon.

She told me. Well, one of the guys told me to ask. And I asked her. So she told me.

"But how does she know about what the guys are doing?"

I think they like her.

"But she's not a guy, Dalinoth..."

Apparently not, but she might as well be.

"You mean she..." D'lon shook his head, and shrugged. "Well, let's get out to that mesa, Dal!"
