Project #29 New Library of Alexandria, Alexandria, Egypt
(competition design, 1988)This project was submitted to UNESCO as an
entry in their competition for a new library, museum, and research
complex in Alexandria, Egypt. The site is believed to be the location of
the famous Library of Alexandria, burned first in 30 B.C. by Julius
Caesar, and then again in 411 A.D. This ancient library contained 500,000
works and was the intellectual centre of such scholars as Hipatia,
Ptolemy, Eris, and Eristophanes.
