Hmm...thats a tough one. There are really a lot of reasons I tell people like "to prove my manhood" or "it'll be something I can tell to my future grandkids" I guess these are kinda true. Really I'm doing it to build character, to meet friendly people, and to say I did it. Its a challenge that I can't back down from, just like Jacks River was, which took me several attempts to finally do the whole 32 miles in one day. I guess what it all comes down to is this is what I love. Backpacking gets down to the core of life, no distractions, just you and the raw wilderness, maybe some new hiking friends, and God. I love the outdoors, and thats why I'm doing it. But now I have new reasons to do this, I'm doing it for all the people that have supported me or have said "wow, I really respect you for doing this" I'm also doing it for people that haven't hiked the whole trail but wanted to, so they can live their dream through me (Tim =) But if anyone ask me why I'm doing this I like to just tell them "to prove my manhood." |
