Damascus
The plane from Australia was full - had 5 hours in LAX before heading across to Chicago - and then down to Knoxville where he spent the night and then caught the 'DOG' for a 3 1/2 hour trip - he then had to hitch a lift into Damascus. The guy dropped him off about a mile out of Damascus and he had to walk into town with his backpack plus carry the 'bounce box' which is rather heavy. (His Bounce box is full of supplies that he will need along the trail - this is posted along and picked up at various points). He will spend the night in a US$10.00 a night hostel on a slab bed - toughen him up for the ground for the next night. He has already struck a disaster with the local supermarket as they did not have a great variety of his 'Lipton Dinners' that he likes - so it is the one variety for the next 4-5 night until he gets to the next town and hopefully they will have a better variety. They only had one packet of Bagels plus only tins (unnecessary weight) not sachets of Tuna - his favourite fish!! - so food will be scarce. He has about a 5 day walk until the next town.

had arrived at Damascus - where he bailed out just on 2 years ago.
