17th August 2002 From:
South Arm Road It's been great being able to return to the Guest House each day as I've been able to have a shower and get some decent food from the food stores over the road. The Andover Guest House is the best hiker accommodation I've experienced. The downstairs lounge area is so spacious and clean and having a TV/Video lounge area is great. There's a library of about 100 movies to choose from. Well, enough of the soft life for me, for from tomorrow, I'll be spending nights on the trail again. There were a couple of steep climbs again today and the trail was a little rough for a few miles. As a result, I was 15 minutes late in meeting 'Pegleg' for my pickup at Highway 17. As usual, he had a cold coke for me. How's that for support from a hiker hostel? I had a surprise meeting on the trail today as 'Restless' caught up to me. I gave her the Koala I have been saving for her, which was her "trail angel" award. When I got back to Andover, who should I run into but 'Tiger Lily' and 'Windbreaker'. Unfortunately they are staying out of town for the night so I won't get to spend any time with them. However, they are only two days behind me so I'm sure I'll see them again. Also another surprise was meeting 'Corncob' again. He came into the Guest House today and is staying overnight. It's been about two months since I've seen him. Today's Ben and Jerry reward was a pint of Karamel Sutra - caramel and chocolate ice cream with fudge chunks and a core of caramel. It was delicious. The temperature reached 92 degrees today and similar is expected tomorrow, however, a cool front will arrive tomorrow, and it will bring lower temps and humidity. Well, that's it for today, folks. Goodnight all.
