'Réal' and I got up at 5:00 A.M. and went downstairs for the free breakfast, which only consisted of muffins and coffee. After I checked out, we headed up the highway to the AT bridge, just as it started raining again. We were worried about getting wet feet again as we had to walk through long grass for about the next five miles as the AT wound it's way through the Pennsylvania cornfields. 'Réal' had a great idea - tie supermarket shopping bags over our boots to shed the water. We did this and fastened them with electrical tape. It rained most of the morning and the plastic bags kept our boots beautifully dry. What a great idea that turned out to be! For, if a hiker can keep his feet dry, he can hike all day in the rain. We made good time despite the rain. In the afternoon, we hit a few tough miles of rocky trail, which really beat our feet about.

We got into Duncannon about 2:00 P.M. and hit the supermarket first, then headed downtown and had a look around. The town looks rather tired, with many buildings needing repair or painting. We were going to stay at the campground but when we reached it on the other side of town, it looked rather seedy, so we continued on to the truck stop on the south side of town.

I had a free shower whilst 'Réal' scouted round for places to camp. While I was in the shower, a lady started hammering on the door that someone was poking through our backpacks, which were outside. I hurriedly dried and dressed and raced outside, however, by this time, 'Réal' had returned and the bum who was looking at our gear had gone. 'Réal' found a spot in the woods and the grass behind a veterinary practice, where we can camp. There was a young guy exercising dogs at the Vets who said it would be okay to camp there close to dark.

So now are in the driver's lounge of the truck stop watching TV. We had dinner upstairs in the restaurant. We'll stay here until about 8:00 P.M. and then go set up camp behind the Vets, which is about 100 yards away.

That's it for today, goodnight St. Pete Sue, and goodnight all.
