It was going to be another hot day so I left for the trail at 5:45 A.M. On leaving town, the first thing I had to do was to cross the Delaware River via the long highway bridge. The traffic on the bridge was very heavy. I never cease to be amazed at the volume of traffic in rural USA at such an early hour. Where were they all going to, I wondered?

The trail was a breeze today. The rocks are fast disappearing. The only problem was that much of today was spent in direct sun, which made it feel very hot.

Just after lunch I saw two large wild turkeys running through the scrub.

I crossed Blue Mountain Lake's Road at 2:30 P.M. to have two guys in a four-wheel drive yell out: "Are you a thru-hiker?" to which I answered, "Yes". They then said, "Can you stop long enough to have a cold drink?" "You bet," I said. I'd found two trail angels! Bob Templin and Tom McCrea are their names. They had cold sodas, brownies, cold water, and stove fuel. Fantastic! I had a Pepsi and a brownie. Ten minutes later, 'Peregrino' comes along and also gets to share the goodies.

The shelter site I'm at is great except for a plague of mosquitoes - the most I have encountered. The repellant doesn't bother them at all. I made the mistake of cooking dinner and got eaten alive. Never again! If the situation occurs again, I won't cook dinner, I'll just jump in the tent with a few granola bars.

The Rangers came by and confirmed that there are problem bears in this area, so we will need to manage our food storage carefully.

That's all for now, goodnight all.
