State: Virginia

Miles today: 16.2 miles
Weather:

The shelter was jam packed last night and it was absolutely freezing. I was out of my bag at 6:30 A.M. and on the trail at 7:20. All of the others except for Corncob looked like they stayed in bed until much later.

The day was overcast and the wind strong and bitterly cold so I knew I wouldn't be stopping for breaks. The hiking was easy as the trail followed the ridge, which was rather flat for about 5 miles. The views to the west were superb, however as it was overcast and freezing, there was no point in stopping to look.

After coming down out of the hills, I stopped for lunch at the Pine Swamp Branch shelter. Every now and then through the afternoon the sun would show itself then disappear again. It's amazing….two days ago I was getting sunburn, now I'm freezing. Hopefully, it will be warm tomorrow.

I got to the shelter around 4:00 P.M., organized my water and checked out the tent sites. Unfortunately no good spots for tents here so it looks like the shelter again. I discovered I have left my pack towel at the last shelter. I hope someone spots it and carries it forward for me.

In the shelter tonight we have: Eric, Corncob, Golden Waldo, and Boats, an attractive 27-year-old female, who is solo hiking.

I'll be putting double socks on tonight as my feet are freezing already and it's only 7:30 P.M.

With that, I say goodnight all.
