Not many people on the trail today as most hikers seem to be heading back to Damascus for "Trail Days" (TKH - an annual hiker event where all hikers from afar meet up), so I am not expecting any crowded shelters soon.

I meant to mention for the people back home that for the last few days the forest has been full of azaleas. There must be literally millions of them, some up to 3M high. Some of them are starting to bloom so it should be quite spectacular in a few weeks time. I started to see quite a few sandy coloured lizards today; one of them had bright sky-blue markings on his neck.

I'm at the shelter with Corncob, Raindog, and Hitchin' Post, a couple from Washington state, who are also going to head back to Damascus tomorrow. Corncob and I are thinking about going to the Four Pines Hostel tomorrow, it's about seven miles from here. They have showers and a washing machine all for the cost of a donation. My AT guide also says they will shuttle hikers to the Homeplace Restaurant in nearby Catawba. This restaurant is said to be one of the best along the AT.

I have run into a small timing problem. I have my "bounce box" waiting for me at Troutville post office, which is 43 miles from here. As tomorrow is Friday there is no way (unless I can get a lift) that I can get there before the post office closes on Saturday morning. That means I will have to stay in Troutville until Monday morning, which could be a bit of a pain.

That's all for now, so I'll say goodnight all.
