As it turned out, it wasn't too cold last night. Heavy D and another couple turned up late so I was not alone in the camping spot after all.

I hit the trail at 7:00 A.M. and followed a steady descent for a few hours until I came to the James River. The trail followed the river for a mile then crossed the river on the longest of the AT footbridges - The James River Footbridge being 600 feet in length.

I had two days food left and I needed to resupply so I decided to try a hitch into Glasgow. I was lucky - a pickup truck came along dropping off Milkshake and Cheeseburger (TKH - the Hikers, not the food. I keep telling you guys they have weird names!), so the guy gave me a lift back to town, which was six miles away. A quick visit to the Supermarket saw me eat a can of corn, drink a pint of strawberry milk, and eat an Oreo Klondike Ice Cream Sandwich. I bought enough food to see me through five days. This would get me to Waynesboro, 80 miles north. I bought a lot extra, to help satisfy my growing appetite. Unfortunately, my pack is now way too heavy again.

It took me 20 minutes to get a hitch back to the AT. It was a young guy in a Mustang. He works for Wal-Mart and was heading home from company training. It was a very fast ride down the winding mountain road to the AT!

Unfortunately for me, the trail then went straight up for about 3 1/2 miles; with my heavy load it was a backbreaker.

The shelter here is alongside a frog-filled pond. The setting is very serene. I, like many others, have set up my tent. I've just had my Lipton's Broccoli Rice and Pasta Dinner…..delicious. I'm planning a lower miles day tomorrow.

With that, I'll say goodnight all.
