| Regardless of his name, Cowboy Bill was spending a good deal of time in the apartment directly across from mine. From that vantage point he might have an opportunity to observe whether or not I was at home. Bill didn't live in that particular apartment. Instead, it was occupied by his friends, Kim Pittman and Mr. Keith Sutton. That apartment had previously been occupied by Donna Snow, who was apparently some relation to former Treasury Secretary, John Snow. With this complicated cast of characters, my tale is beginning to have some of the characteristics of a mystery novel, isnt it? Or perhaps a spy thriller. In the days in which I read those genres, I noted that there tended to be some overlapping of the two forms. Possibly, on the part of Donna or John Snow, there'd been an expectation that I might produce something further regarding social security--something which might be of value to the Bush administration. But they'd want whatever I might produce to use for their own purposes without giving me any compensation or recognition. That, at least, would be my own reasonable expectation based on my experiences as related above. A scanned document, proving that Donna had lived across from me, may be viewed by clicking at left. Donna Snow moved out a number of months after Secretary Snow resigned in 2006. And the other unit that adjoined mine in the building on the same floor was occupied, in 2007 and 2008, by Mr. Jerome Edmonds. There were problems in the building at times. Windows were broken. Two people were stabbed in another incident. In spring of 2007 some items of value were gone from my apartment. Someone had entered, using a key, and locked up upon leaving. One item, a package of steaks, might have been of value to any hungry person. But other items wouldn’t have been of general value as stolen property. In that latter category were at least one letter, which had been sent to me by a well-known person, and some scientific notes from my files. While the notes weren't necessarily without value, those to whom they might have been of interest would've been limited to a small number in academia or government. Now, we all love playing private eye. I’d even thought of writing a novel about a fictional detective, “David Mannn, Private Eye.” (I thought the three “n”s would convey an indication of reasonable--but not excessive-- virility for my projected fictional alter ego.) Here then was my chance for a real detective case. Now, I've had a good deal of experience of minor encounters with both with well-known people and with their relatives. In the case of relatives, there's often been a desire to make the familial relationship obscure. This point may merit elaboration, even though it takes my story on a brief detour. There's a Mrs. Kathy Rather, as an example of what I'm talking about, who was working at University Hospital in Indianapolis in 2008 as she had for at least sixteen prior years. She was related by marriage to Mr. Dan Rather, but steadfastly denied the relation. Another example: the reader may click at left to see a circular I received from an individual who I met about twelve years ago in Indianapolis. His name was "Jim." He told me that he was the illegitimate son of Mr. Henry Kissinger. I found that credible, based on Jim's appearance and other factors. At the time I knew him, Jim was in some trouble with the law in Indianapolis. In the court records, which I was given a chance to look at, his name was entered as "Kessinger," for some reason. Actually, I could think of any of a number of reasons for that. Now, I'm not wanting to be judgmental about this. For one thing, there's a faint possibility that a person could turn up in the progression of my own life with a truthful claim of being my own son or daughter. But former secretary, Mr. Henry Kissinger, has served on the board of CBS And pointing out the connection to CBS of many who I encountered in my life in that period, may not have me made popular at that network. About the time I knew Jim, Connie Chung was with CBS, and I sent her some material in the mail. She sent a pre-printed courtesy note which may be viewed by clicking at left. It said, "I've pased the material onto the producers, but, unfortunately, we decided that we're unable to pursue the story at this point in time." Shortly after I got the note, she was fired by CBS. I wondered whether the material I'd sent her had been a contributing factor. I should hope not, since--except for one special report she did on space colonization--I'd thought of Connie as an interesting and competent journalist. But let's return now to 2007 and to my efforts to prevent my apartment from acquiring the status of a city park, open to all. I should say that "Snoopy" of IUPUI Informatics, Mr. John Snow, and Congressman Mike Pence have all been given an opportunity to respond to my statements about them. None has cared to do so. But, leaving them temporarily aside, there were other leads I could follow. I’d often wondered whether or not Mr. Rick Greenspan, IU Director of Athletics, was related to Alan Greenspan. I deccded to investigate the matter. Continue |
