| Although, as the 2007 political process began to select the next president, I didn't think George Bush had done a very good job, that doesn't mean that I'd been disloyal to my country. And I'd been listed five times in Marquis Who's Who in America. I'd also been listed in a work called Outstanding People of the Twentieth Centruy which was published in 2000 by the International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, England. The reader may click at left to see a paste-up of award notifications. So I thought I'd had a reasonable record of accomplishment to balance an admitted number of mistakes and regrets. And I even thought I may have had a few good shots left in my old age: for example, I had some thoughts about how to improve political stability in the middle east. My work with viruses may provide a way to reduce HIV infections in US prisons. In 2008 it was announced that GE would be closing an appliance plant in Bloomington, IN. More US plants, such as that one, could be kept open if improved organizational methods were used. The basics of that are discussed above and elsewhere on this site. I made some effort to explain this to both Indiana Governor Daniels office and to GE. But aside from the difficulty to penetrating the hierarchy to reach anyone in authority at either the governor's office or GE, there was the question of I could trust either hierarchy to deal with me fairly. So my efforts faltered. At the same time I was myself involved in a dangerous situation that was as unlawful as it was Byzantine. Now, I don't want to be melodramatic. But, in the event of my demise, I'm hoping that this narrative will survive long enough to cause trouble for both the actual operatives and for the orchestrators higher up. You see, in the last half of the second term of Gerorge W Bush, the threat to American security wasn't entirely external. In The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Mr Edward Gibbon tells us that Rome's fall came not because of Rome's external enemies, but because of Rome's own internal corruption. We can only hope that some future historian won't say something similar about us. In late 2007, I published my proposal for peace in the Middle East by posting it on this web site where it may still be viewed. See Screen A of the home page. I sent e-mails about that to various members of Congress one day in 2007 when it was starting to get cold. Evidently it was a good suggestion. I say that because there was a major power outage in my neighborhood that very evening. In addition, somehow, the boiler in our apartment building went out during the blackout and couldn't be fixed for several days. Mangement had to buy individual heaters for each tenant. Now, I wasn't sure that my friends in the Bush administration had been responsible for that; the odds, in my thinking, were perhaps about fifty-fifty. The following spring military exercises were conducted in the Indianapolis area. Considering that Indianapolis is a rather large city, military helicopters spent an unusual amount of time flying near my apartment building. But I was used to that because a news helicopter had done a good deal of that in the past. (The military helicopters made a somewhat different sound.) And I could say with certainty that my use of computers at IUPUI was monitored during that approximate period. Adding things up, it seemed I was still considered by some to be "the most dangerous man in America." (Click to read earlier reference at start of this article.) While war may not be a lot of fun for someone on the front lines, it can be a good thing for many others who benefit personally in one way or another. The military itself has an extensive sedentary division, which has no basic reason to oppose war and there are many other comparable groups in both governement and the private sector. Also I knew from my Cold War peacemaking experience that being a peacemaker doesn't always make one popular. In the spring of 2008 police knocked on my door. They said that two teachers at St. Lady of Lourdes Catholic school had complained about me. According to the teachers, I'd been taking pictures of children on the playground from the window of my apartment. The playground was a considerable distance from my building and it wouldn't have possible to take pictures without special telephoto equipment which I certainly didn't have. And there were trees in the way. I called the school principal to find out if there was a problem. She didn't return my call. I sent e-mails to some of the parishioners and to Father Nicholas Dant, the parish priest. Father Dant replied by asking me not to communicate with him further. Taking pictures of children on a school yard is something that might be done to intimidate the parents of those children. If those parents included police or others in a position of responsibility, it's something that might be done to intimidate those individuals. Taking pictures like that is, in fact, something that a drug dealer might do. And then to blame it on me is a repeat of "the Doctor Detroit maneuver" which has been discussed earlier in this article. My (perhaps somewhat successful) personal efforts to inform the public and assist police in thwarting the drug culture has been discussed earlier (see, "Doctor Detroit," left). Was it unreasonable to think that those who wish to profit from drugs in Indianapolis might not like me very much? Were there any people like that, any Tony Sopranos or "Tony Schizopranos" in the congregration of Our Lady of Lourdes or other Indianapolis Catholic churches? In a Catholic church one may sometimes find both police and mobsters. Now, I went to a Catholic grade school, and I'm not wishing to imply that the entire congregation of any given church would be likely to consist mostly of those two categories. But if there were any gangsters in Our Lady of Lourdes, it wouldn't have been Fr. Dant's job to inform on them. "Resist not evil," it says in the Gospel of St. Matthew, and it seems that injunction may have been intended particularly for the disciples, and, by extension, for future priests. But there's a difference between not resisting evil and actually doing evil: deliberately making a false accusation against me was the latter action. And, with respect to Catholic police officers, it's their duty to enforce the laws of secular society, not to play by the rules of a silly, unsuccessful movie that was made in 1983. And even though it may not be the dury of Fr. Dant to turn in any Tony Sopranos in his flock, I don't think most Catholic police officers would like their church, as an institution. to become a wholly-owned subsidary of International Drug Inc. So I'd like to respectfully suggest to Prosecutor Carl Brizzi that the best way to protect the parents of children against criminal intimidation is to go after the actual bad guys. I know it can be scarier to go after actual bad guys than to pick on a celebrated patsy or fall guy like me. But If police are allowed to continue to play games, a situation of systemic offical corruption will be created. Children, parents, and everyone else will be at greater risk. In the spring 2008 I received, at the public library, from a single source, many e-mails, each of which exhibited a number of illegal features. In the first place they offered for sale, without a prescription, products that did require a prescription. The products included Viagra and Cialis and valium. There was a homosexual implication to the message, so it was being sent by someone who was offering to be the supplier of illegal merchandise for gay parties. Since the drugs were being offered at rock-bottom prices, there was a strong possibility that they were either counterfeit, or else being diverted from the stock of a legitimate manufacturer. Although I tried asking the sender that no more be sent, the e-mails continued. I reported them as spam. They continued still. And they took on a new illegal feaure. That was that the sender and recipient names listed on the e-mail headings became the same. That isn't possible for a Yahoo customer who is playing by the rules of the Yahoo system. Nevertheless, both sender addresses were listed as "yahoo.com." It seemed, therefore that the sender had hacked into the Yahoo system in a way that I imagined could possibly threaten the integrity of that system. It seemed the sender could do with the system as he or she fancied. I received one e-mail that indicated that it had been sent in the year 2038, for example. Based on my understanding of the internet, which admittedly isn't at a high level, the e-mails had probably been sent by someone at one of three distribution centers. Those were Yahoo itself, the computer division of the Indianapolis Marion-County library, or the IU computer network. The internet has local centers where messages are collected and rerouted, and where, I imagined, mischief also could be done, Those were the three centers that I'd been using. Since Cialis is made by Eli Lilly, I thought the matter might be of interest to Indianapolis police. But Rita of the Indpls. southeast police district informed me otherwise when I tried to advise her about the situation over the phone. My experience with the Indpls. police, in general, had been that, while they were happy to listen to complaints against me, they were very skeptical about any information with which I might try to provide them. I suspected the way I was being treated had roots partly in Chicago organized crime and in the situation depicted in the Doctor Detroit movie. I say that because Indianapolis police seemed to have what ammounted to a consistent policy about anything having to do with me. The policy may have been unwritten, but it crossed boundaries of various police districts--since I was receiving the same sort of thing in different parts of Indpls. I'd been getting something similar from the University of Chicago, as described elsewhere on this site. Indeed I'd been getting the same sort of thing, from various quarters, for a long time. So my situation exhibited consistency and other evidence of organization. (For my thoughts on the abstract properties of human and other biological organizations the reader may wish to click left.) In July 2008 it seemed that my friends in the Indianapolis police had decided to make "Gaus Police Street Theater" an annual event. (Click left for a description of the 2007 gala event.) As I was walking downtown on east Washington street I noticed an unusual configuration in my path. Several police cars had assembled, not far from the site of the former Wild Thing Imports. Indeed, it may have been the actual exact intersection. Conclusion of article |
