Not far from Kelowna is this old steam railway line that had been converted to a bike path. The Kettle Valley Railway (KVR) was originally built for the silver mining industry. They have kept the trestles and removed the rails and is frequented by thousands of hikers and cyclists. It is only a 1% grade (for every hundred feet, the elevation changes only one foot), so it was extremely easy to cycle. You can camp or stay in a rustic inn along the route.
Sadly, a few years later, the 2003 Okanagan Mountain Park Fire from August to September 2003, resulted in 12 of the 18 trestles on the Myra Canyon section of the route being burnt down. Additionally the bridge decks of two of the metal trestles were destroyed in the fire. However, they have started reconstruction. For more info on the KVR,
