    This is a typical railway crossing. In the three years I spent in Japan, I never saw anyone run under the gate to beat the train.
     On both sides of the tracks there are radar guns. If something gets stuck on the tracks, the gates will not decend and that will alert the train engineer to prepare to stop. Pretty cool !
